American Airlines has announced the election of Howard Ungerleider to their Board of Directors. Mr. Ungerleider will serve on the Board’s Audit and Compensation Committees.
On Wednesday (July 31, 2024), American Airlines announced the appointment of Howard Ungerleider (55) to the company’s Board of Directors. He will serve on the Board’s Audit and Compensation Committees. Currently, Mr. Ungerleider is an Operating Advisor to Clayton Dubilier & Rice. Previously he served as President and Chief Financial Officer for Dow, Inc., where he was also a member of the Dow’s Senior Executive Committee, before retiring in January 2024, after over 30 years with the company.
In Wednesday’s announcement, American Airlines’ Chairman, Greg Smith, said,
“We are very pleased to welcome Howard to American’s board of directors. Howard is an accomplished executive who has held key commercial, financial and operational roles over three decades at Dow. His financial expertise and global business and leadership experience will make him a valuable member of our board.”
Also commenting on the new Board appointment, American Airlines’ CEO, Robert Isom, added,
“Howard is a fantastic addition to the American Airlines board. His business acumen and extensive experience leading a complex, multinational organization will be important assets to American and our board.”
Howard Ungerleider joined the Dow Chemical Company in 1990, and held a variety of senior leadership roles over the years, across several divisions and locations. He served as EVP of Dow’s Advanced Materials Division, President of the company’s Performance Plastics Division, VP of Investor Relations, and North American Commercial VP for Basic Plastics. In 2014 he was named CFO, Vice Chairman in 2015 and President in 2018. Between 2017 and 2018 Mr. Ungerleider served as CFO for DowDuPont, an $86 billion holding company comprised of the Dow Chemical Company and DuPont.
Currently, he sits on the Board of Kyndryl Holdings, Inc. Mr. Ungerleider has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles.
