On Thursday (September 7, 2023), American Airlines previewed their new $100 million catering facility to serve their Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) hub, which opened at the start of the summer season. At more than three times the size of a football field, the 214,000 square foot facility is the largest airline catering kitchen in the U.S. The high-tech facility will allow American to cater more flights efficiently, while enhancing the carrier’s ability to deliver a memorable onboard dining experience for guests.

In Thursday’s announcement, American Airlines’ SVP – Inflight and Premium Guest Services, Brady Byrnes, said,

“From the moment a customer steps into one of our airport lobbies to when they are relaxing with a refreshment at 35,000 feet, we're always thinking of ways to make their journey even better. This kitchen is an example of the investments we’re making to enhance our operations while focusing on delivering a consistent customer experience and service that sets us apart. The strength of DFW is that we're literally able to connect customers to the world.”

American’s DFW facility prepares nearly 15,000 fresh meals daily during peak travel periods. During summer 2023, the airline and their regional partners operated over 800 daily flights from DFW to over 240 destinations in 23 different countries. American designed the new facility from the ground up, helping catering teams to focus on quality, freshness and speed. The new catering facility will also soon participate in a unique program that turns organic food waste into compost. As trays and dishes are cleaned, organic food waste will be collected by a vendor and distributed to farms and compost facilities. American has long recycled cans, paper, bottles and other trash removed from aircraft. Additionally, the airline is deploying a new fleet of over 100 catering trucks to support their DFW hub operation.

American Airlines’ purpose is to “care for people on life’s journey.” Shares in the American Airlines Group, Inc., trade on NASDAQ under the ticker symbol AAL and the company’s stock is included in the S&P 500.
