American Airlines announced today that they have reached a milestone 700 daily departures at their Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) hub in Charlotte, North Carolina. American team members along with CLT management and community leaders celebrated the milestone Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting for four new leased gates at CLT’s Concourse A. The airport is now American’s second largest hub, offering guests service to 149 destinations. In Wednesday’s announcement, American Airlines’ Vice President of Network Planning, Brian Znotins said,
“With the addition of these new gates, we were able to add frequencies on popular routes and we now operate nearly 80 flights per day to Florida, 30 flights per day to the New York Metro area, and 25 flights per day to the D.C. metro area. We’ll continue to be the best airline with the most choice in Charlotte for both business and leisure customers.”
In 2019, American added seven new domestic routes from Charlotte including service to Erie, PA (ERI), Bangor, ME (BGR), Ithaca, NY (ITH), New Haven, CT (HVN), Champaign, IL (CMI) and Traverse City, MI (TVC). The carrier also added international service to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ), Munich, Germany (MUC), Grenada (GND) and Georgetown in the Bahamas (GGT). With the addition of four new gates, American’s dominance at CLT can’t be denied as the carrier now operates out of every concourse, utilizing 93 out of the airport’s 114 gates. American’s new gates are located at the recently renovated concourse A, which offers expanding dining and retail choices, as well as power at every waiting area seat.
American Airlines operates 6,800 daily flights to over 365 destinations in 61 countries. Serving over 200 million customers annually, the airline has invested over $28 billion since 2013 in its people, products and services. The airline currently operates the youngest fleet as compared to the other large U.S. network carriers.
