Avelo Airlines will take off today from Lakeland International Airport in Florida to Tweed-New Haven Airport in Southern Connecticut. This is Lakeland’s first commercial airline service in over decade, providing a new alternative to Tampa and Orlando.
On Thursday (June 13, 2024), Avelo Airlines announced that their inaugural flight between Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL) in Florida and Southern Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) took to the skies today. This represents a significant milestone for LAL, as this is the first commercial airline flight from the airport in over a decade. Lakeland is conveniently located on the I-4 corridor between Tampa and Orlando, making the new service a low-fare alternative to Tampa International Airport (TPA) or Orlando International Airport (MCO). The new route will operate twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays with a Boeing 737NG aircraft, and one-way fares from $81 (T&Cs apply).
In Thursday’s announcement, Avelo Airlines’ Founder and CEO, Andrew Levy, said,
“Lakeland – it’s finally time to say hello to Avelo! We’re excited to officially take off in Lakeland and showcase Avelo’s low fares, travel-friendly convenience and industry-leading reliability. Getting to Southern Connecticut and everything the greater New England and New York regions have to offer will now be easier than ever. I am grateful to all the community leaders who made this partnership possible. This is just the start of Avelo’s partnership with LAL and Central Florida.”
Also commenting on Avelo’s new service, Lakeland’s Mayor, Bill Mutz, said,
“Avelo Airline flights to and from Lakeland Linder International Airport mark the dawn of a new era in passenger air service for visitors and our residents. We eagerly anticipate travelers discovering the incredible amenities that our community has to offer. Moreover, we are filled with optimism about our airport and the travel possibilities that Avelo Airlines will bring to our residents. This is only the beginning of a promising partnership journey!”
Lakeland’s City Manager, Shawn Sherrouse, added,
“We are very excited to welcome the inaugural Avelo Airlines flight into Lakeland. It is a great day when our community plays host to travelers, and we extend our warmest embrace to this momentous occasion. We usher in a new era of connectivity and accessibility, offering not just flights, but a promise of enhanced opportunities and connections for our vibrant community. We look forward to a future filled with endless horizons and boundless possibilities.”
