Avelo Airlines has today announced the opening of their sixth operating base at Central Florida’s Lakeland International Airport (LAL). Starting this week, the carrier is also launching four new routes from the new base.
On Thursday (October 24, 2024) Avelo Airlines announced the grand opening of their sixth operating base at Central Florida’s Lakeland International Airport (LAL) with one based aircraft, and four new routes. Starting this week, the carrier will launch service from LAL to Charlotte / Concord (USA), Boston / Manchester, N.H. (MHT), Rochester, N.Y. (ROC), and San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) with one-way fares from only $46. Avelo is the only carrier offering direct service on these routes, which will each operate twice weekly with a Boeing 737NG.
In Thursday’s announcement, Avelo Airlines’ Founder and CEO, Andrew Levy, said,

Customers flying into Lakeland from any of our new destinations can expect more time and freedom to explore Florida in any direction they choose. Lakeland is the perfect complement to our operations in MCO and offers yet another choice among the other Florida airports we serve. It has all the attributes we look for to provide affordable travel between the places people want to fly.”
Also commenting on Avelo’s new base opening, Lakeland International Airport’s Director, Kris Hallstrand, said,

Visit Central Florida’s Director of Tourism and Sports Marketing, Mark Jackson, added,
“Thanks to Avelo Airlines, it will now be easier for travelers from around the world to experience Central Florida’s Polk County, where the real Florida magic happens.”
Avelo will also launch three additional routes from Lakeland this November, including service to Atlanta (ATL), Hartford (BDL), Philadelphia / Wilmington, DE (ILG), bringing the total number of routes from LAL to eight, joining service to Southern Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN).
