Avianca will introduce new Premium, Plus and Economy Class seats by Recaro on their Airbus A320 Fleet starting in the second quarter of 2022. The cabin redesign will also increase passenger capacity by 20 percent, providing a 13 percent reduction in CO2 per passenger.

On Monday (October 25, 2021), Avianca announced the launch of a new interior configuration of their Airbus A320 fleet featuring Premium, Plus and Economy Class seats by Recaro. The first fully reconfigured aircraft will enter service in the second quarter of 2021 and the cabin redesign will result in 20 percent more seats, allowing for lower prices and a 13 percent reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger. The new Recaro seats were introduced by Avianca during the ALTA Airline Leaders Forum 2021, an event hosted by the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association in Bogota, and will soon be available on the airline’s short and medium-haul flights. The new aircraft interior design will also feature Airbus’ SpaceFlex, optimizing the rear layout of the aircraft to increase seating capacity.
In Monday’s announcement, Avianca’s Vice President of Engineering and Maintenance, Albert Perez, said,
“The installation of more than 14 thousand seats and the new lavatory space in all of our A320 aircraft will be completed by the end of 2022. Until that date and pending the full transition of the fleet, our clients will find aircraft that will look different inside and will not have the final configuration; they will soon fly in aircraft with a renewed interior on which they will continue to travel comfortably, safely and pleasantly.”
Also commenting on Avianca’s new A320 seating, Recaro Aircraft Seating’s CEO, Dr. Mark Hiller, said,
“Our partnership with Avianca has resulted in a one-of-a-kind seat design which will offer an exceptional experience to premium passengers. In addition to the personalized amenities selected for each seat product, their lightweight structures will improve aircraft efficiency, which is a top priority for both Avianca and Recaro.”
Arturo Barreira, President of Airbus Latin America & the Caribbean, added,
“We are proud that Avianca has selected Airbus Services for a complete cabin reconfiguration for their existing A320 Family fleet. By choosing Airbus’ SpaceFlex next generation, Avianca is preparing for the future, by ramping up their aircraft for the full recovery of air traffic.”
Avianca currently offers one of the most robust networks in Latin America with 100 routes and over 2,680 weekly flights, offering nearly 400,000 available seats weekly.
