On Monday (January 24, 2022), Bamboo Airways announced their first-ever route connecting Japan and Vietnam with weekly return service between Tokyo-Narita and Hanoi starting January 24th, increasing to twice weekly service from February 10, 2022. The route will be operated with an eco-friendly and fuel-efficient Airbus A321neo. Japan is one of the key tourism markets for Vietnam, ranking in the top five markets with the most tourists visiting Vietnam. Prior to the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the tourist exchange between the two countries reached 1.9 million visitors during 2019.

Bamboo Airways was established in 2017 as the first private Vietnamese airline dedicated to providing 5-star services with a focus on hospitality, and the goal of connecting high-potential holiday destinations in Vietnam to the world. For 2022, the carrier plans on operating 40 international routes, including service to destinations in the US, UK, Australia and more, in addition to domestic flights in Vietnam.
