The Board of Airline Representatives in Germany (BARIG) has today announced Düsseldorf Airport as their newest industry partner. BARIG supports dialog and intensive exchange with aviation partners to meet challenges facing the industry.
On Friday (December 15, 2023), the Board of Airline Industry Representatives in Germany (BARIG) announced that Düsseldorf Airport has become their newest partner. Düsseldorf Airport joins Munich and Stuttgart as BARIG’s airport partners, and collectively with all partners, BARIG supports dialog and exchange within the aviation sector to jointly meet the challenges in the industry. At BARIG’s full Board meeting in Frankfurt am Main on December 13, 2023, representatives of Düsseldorf Airport and the airlines discussed preparations for 2024, especially regarding major scheduled events such as the UEFA European Football Championship 2024 in Germany.
In Friday’s partnership announcement, BARIG’s Chairman and Executive Director, Michael Hoppe, said,
“Air traffic can only perform well if infrastructure and processes are constantly optimized. Airport operations in particular play an essential role in this regard. There are many complex interfaces between airport operators and airlines where other players are involved as well, for example in ground operations, aviation security, or sustainability. A good, constructive exchange can contribute to further improvements here, and passengers as well as air cargo customers will benefit from this.”
Also commenting on the new industry partnership, Düsseldorf Airport’s SVP – Aviation and Accountable Manager, Dr. Henning Pfisterer, added,
“After a strong operational performance during the peak season in 2023, where we had significantly fewer delays and minimal waiting times for passengers, we are now starting to plan for the future. From June 14 to July 14, 2024, the UEFA European Football Championship will take place in Germany. This will likely lead to a considerable increase in demand for flights. We are preparing intensively for this event and for the entire travel season while also involving our airline partners. The cooperation with BARIG offers us an excellent platform for this.”
Düsseldorf Airport is the largest airport in the most populous state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and is among the four largest airports in Germany. Currently, 59 airlines operate flights to/from the state capital, and in 2022, Düsseldorf Airport served over 16 million passengers.
