On Thursday (November 16, 2023), Beond, billed as the world’s first premium leisure airline, announced the launch of inaugural service between Munich and Malé in the Maldives.  The route will now operate twice weekly with an Airbus A319 featuring 44 luxurious lie-flat seats.  The carrier plans on adding 32 aircraft and 60 new destinations over the next five years.  This week, Beond also showcased their first aircraft at the Dubai Airshow 2023.  Later this week, the carrier will also launch new service between Zurich and Riyadh, while flights between Dubai and Milan will commence in spring 2024.

In Thursday’s announcement, Beond’s CEO, Tero Taskila, said,

“With our first revenue flight, Beond has arrived.  We were delighted to welcome our first guests on board.  The flight is the start of this adventure to the beautiful Maldives and represents the starting line of our vision to build Beond as a luxury travel brand.  Beond seeks to redefine the skies, where luxury, comfort, and exclusivity are not just ideals, but realities experienced by every traveller.

“We wish especially to thank the Munich Airport for their support for our inaugural flight and activities, and we thank the leading German travel agencies and media who met us in person and saw our product.  We are thankful for the support of the government of the Maldives and our supporters there, the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority, and SIMDI Group, each of whom have demonstrated belief in our vision for a new airline in the Maldives.”

Also commenting on Beond’s inaugural flight, Munich Airport’s SVP – Aviation, Oliver Dersh, added,

“We’re delighted that Beond selected Munich Airport as its first European origin.”
