On Friday (December 27, 2024), Brussels Airlines announced that they will add three more Airbus A320neos to their fleet by summer 2026.  The A320neo uses less fuel, reduces CO2 emissions by up to 20 percent, and delivers a 50 percent smaller noise footprint compared to previous generation aircraft.  The additional three A320neos will expand the carrier’s fleet total of the type to eight aircraft, and is just the latest development in the airline’s ongoing fleet renewal program.  Brussels Airlines took delivery of their first new A320neo on November 1st, 2023, and currently operates five.  These state-of-the-art aircraft will replace two Airbus A319s, while the third will be used for fleet expansion.

In Friday’s announcement, Brussels Airlines’ CEO, Dorothea von Boxberg, said,

“Being able to add extra brand-new aircraft is a win-win-win: by replacing older aircraft by the most fuel-efficient aircraft on the market, we reduce our impact on the environment.  We are also growing our fleet, which creates extra jobs and improves connectivity for Belgium.  And last but not least: the A320neo is a joy to fly, both for passengers and crew, thanks to it’s upgraded, comfortable cabins, the quietness during the flight and additional space for hand luggage.”

In addition to the sustainability benefits, Brussels Airlines has also introduced a new Airbus A320neo cabin design concept, featuring new, more comfortable ergonomic seats.  Additionally, the lighting in the cabin can be adjusted to the time of day, helping passengers feel more energized after the flight.  The A320neo also features 40 percent larger overhead bins.
