Cathay Cargo has commemorated DB Schenker’s membership in their Corporate SAF Programme with a signing ceremony held on Tuesday (October 8th). DB Schenker is now the newest and largest contributor to Cathay’s carbon reduction program.
On Wednesday (October 9, 2024), Cathay Cargo announced that DB Schenker has now become the newest and largest member of the carrier’s Corporate Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Programme. To mark the occasion, a special signing ceremony was held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the airline’s Cathay City headquarters. The ceremony was attended by Cathay Cargo’s Director, Tom Owen and DB Schenker’s Vice President Global Carrier
Relation, Susanne Stemmer.
Speaking at Tuesday’s signing ceremony, Cathay Cargo’s Director, Tom Owen, said,
“We are delighted to welcome DB Schenker here not only as the newest member of the Cathay Corporate SAF Programme, but also as its biggest contributor. It is great to have this level of support from such an important player in the air cargo industry as we work together to decarbonise aviation. This ceremony marks our appreciation for DB Schenker’s significant contribution to our collective efforts to fly Greener Together.”
Also speaking at the signing ceremony, DB Schenker’s VP – Global Carrier Relation, Susanne Stemmer, said,
“We are very excited about this collaboration with Cathay Cargo, which will contribute to a more sustainable future for our industry and enhance our long-lasting global partnership with Cathay.”
DB Schenker’s Global Air Freight Sustainability manager, Alexander Mentgen, added,
“SAF is making change possible already today. Our new SAF alliance with Cathay Cargo enhances our sustainability commitment and leadership in the skies.”
Established in 2022 to help mitigate climate change, the Cathay Corporate SAF Programme enable members to purchase SAF for uplift on Cathay Pacific and Cathay Cargo flights from Hong Kong and other airports in Cathay’s network. DB Schenker has joined the program with a commitment to purchase 878 tonnes (290,000 gallons) of SAF, which will reduce over 2,600 tonnes of carbon emissions. On a lifecycle basis, SAF can reduce GHG emissions by over 80 percent compared to conventional jet fuel. Cathay Pacific and Cathay Cargo have committed to using SAF for 10 percent of their fuel consumption by 2030.
