On Friday (October 18, 2024), Delta Air Lines unveiled a new cabin interior, which will be progressively rolled out across their fleet.  The carrier’s narrowbody 757s will be refreshed first, and will be deployed on domestic and short haul international routes later this fall, followed by a widebody Airbus A350 in 2025.  The cabin refresh will include new seating materials, enhanced lighting, and a new color palette, along with decorative motifs and signature branding.

In Friday’s announcement, Delta’s Vice President – Customer Experience Design, Mauricio Parise, said,

“Delta has a 100-year history of creating a customer experience that feels welcoming and thoughtful with intentional design elements woven into every aspect of a customer’s travel.  As we embark on our next century of flying, this refreshed cabin interior infuses utility with beauty to create an atmosphere that feels fresh, elevated, and timeless while reflecting our customers’ evolving tastes and expectations.

“Every flight is different, so we’ve focused on creating warm, calming and atmospheric lighting options that create an environment for customers to rest and relax, or stay productive as they wish.  For boarding, we’ve focused on the ‘moment of deceleration’ – warm and inviting lighting that makes the cabin appear spacious and open.  At mealtimes, we queue hues that feel like you’re at a candlelit dinner – making meals more natural and inviting.  As the lights dim for sleep, we borrow from the sunset and slowly remove blue light while bringing in warm amber tones which are reminiscent of a sunset glow.  When it’s time to wake up, the cabin slowly brightens into morning and daylight.

“Delta has taken the time to develop every detail of our new interiors; the team was intentional in creating an experience that mimics our customers’ lifestyles and puts them at ease as soon as they board our aircraft.  We look forward to sharing our hard work with our customers and welcoming them onboard.”

Delta will use breathable materials, comfortable memory-foam cushions on widebody jets, and lighting that promotes relaxation across their fleet.  The nose-to-tail refresh is based on extensive customer and team member feedback, and research to create a cabin experience that reflects customers’ changing expectations and lifestyles.  Guests traveling in Delta Comfort+ or Main Cabin will enjoy leather seats with updated colors, signature stitching and accent stripes.  Customers traveling on widebody aircraft in Delta Comfort+ or Main Cabin will appreciate new memory foam cushions for added comfort.

Delta One guests will enjoy new, soft and breathable fabric seats made of a wool and nylon blend, which is lighter than the current seat covers, and better regulates temperature.  The new The Delta One seat also features a headrest fabricated of engineered leather.  Updated seats for Delta Premium Select and First Class feature a new seat cover over memory foam cushions made from breathable engineered leather.  As previously mentioned, enhanced lighting programs have been designed to create a cohesive, calming onboard experience.  The mood lighting suits each phase of flight, allowing guests to be better adjusted to their time zone.

An evolution of the current onboard branding patterns, the bulkheads also feature new design motifs.  Customers will be welcomed onboard with the ‘Infinite Grid’ pattern, reminding customers that no one better connects the world than Delta.  The ‘Celestial Sky’ pattern leverages elements of Delta’s global network, while evoking the excitement and wonder of flight.  Additionally, branded cabin identifiers appear on all widebody aircraft in Delta One and Delta Premium Select.  On aircraft without a full-sized divider between cabins, an under-bin divider will feature the Celestial Sky pattern.  Lavatories will also be refreshed with bright walls, an accent wall opposite the mirror, and cabinets in a modern Azure Blue color.
