On Wednesday (December 4, 2024), Delta Air Lines celebrated the grand opening of their new state-of-the-art pilot training facility near Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC).  The facility was officially opened on Tuesday (December 3rd) following a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Delta officials, Salt Lake City-based team members, local government officials and community members. This is Delta’s latest investment in one of their key network hubs, and represents the first significant training facility investment outside of Delta’s Atlanta HQ, which opened its first pilot training facility in 1968.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Delta Air Lines’ EVP and Chief of Operations, John Laughter, said,

“This 50,000-square-foot training center is really about the future.  There’s a great opportunity to improve not only great quality of training, but quality of life, too, and have our pilots have a really great training center to come to here.”

The new facility will boost pilot training capacity, while providing a more convenient location for pilots in Delta’s Western hubs.  Delta also maintains flight attendant training facilities in SLC, supporting thousands of training events annually.  Delta is Salt Lake City’s largest global premium carrier, and operates more flights than all other airlines combined, with up to 240 peak-day flights to nearly 90 destinations worldwide, including Amsterdam, London, Paris, and Seoul (from June 12, 2025).

Delta’s new Salt Lake City facility will host over 1,000 training events every month, and features four high-ceiling bays to accommodate up to four full motion simulators, and four procedure trainers used for qualification training.  The facility also includes 10 briefing rooms, seven classrooms, door training and emergency equipment training spaces, while boasting best-in-class environmental & sustainability features throughout.

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) is the global U.S. airline leader in safety, innovation, reliability and customer experience.  The carrier operates over 4,000 daily flights across more than 290 destinations on six continents.  Delta has over 100,000 team members and has served over 190 million customers in 2023.  The airline operates significant hubs and key markets in Amsterdam, Atlanta, Bogota, Boston, Detroit, Lima, London-Heathrow, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New York-JFK and LaGuardia, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Salt Lake City, Santiago (Chile), São Paulo, Seattle, Seoul-Incheon and Tokyo.  For the last decade, Delta has led the industry in operational excellence, while maintaining their reputation for award-winning customer service.
