Discover Airlines to Open New Munich Long-Haul Base In March 2025

In March 2025, Discover Airlines will open a new long-haul base in Munich with two based Airbus A330s, and new direct service to Orlando, Windhoek and Calgary.

On Tuesday (June 4, 2024), Discover Airlines announced that they will open a new long-haul base in Munich in March 2025, with two based Airbus A330s.  The carrier is already the largest leisure airline in Munich, with five short-haul aircraft serving 23 holiday destinations with around 70 weekly flights.  With the new based long-haul aircraft, the carrier will also be launching new service from Munich to Orlando, Windhoek and Calgary.  In 2025, Discover’s Munich base will be home to around 400 team members, and will offer service to nearly 30 destinations.


In Tuesday’s announcement, Discover Airlines’ CEO, Bernd Bauer, said,


“The expansion of our operations in Munich is an important milestone for us.  With this step, we are consistently focusing on our goal of expanding Lufthansa's offering at the two major German hubs with versatile, attractive holiday options offering travelers even more choice.  With our three new long-haul destinations we are doing just that as they have never been accessible by direct flight from Munich before or were last accessible many years ago.  Our increased activities are a clear commitment by the Lufthansa Group to Munich as location for the air transport industry as well as to the entire region.”


Also commenting on Discover’s expansion, Munich Airport’s Chairman, Jost Lammers, said,


“With the new long-haul leisure routes, Discover Airlines is adding highly attractive intercontinental destinations to the route portfolio at Munich Airport. The leisure carrier is one of the largest airlines based at Munich Airport and - as a combination of tourist and hub carrier - fits perfectly into the Lufthansa Group network.”


Starting March 3, 2025, Discover Airlines will offer three weekly nonstop flights between Munich and Orlando on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  From April 1st, 2025, the carrier will launch three weekly flights to Windhoek, Namibia on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays.  Additionally, Discover will offer up to five weekly flights between Munich and Calgary, Canada on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays starting April 12, 2025.  All three routes will be operate year-round exclusively by Discover Airlines.
