On Monday (February 10, 2025), Embraer announced that the E190F E-Freighter has now achieved full certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).  This follows certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the U.S. and by the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC) in 2024.  The E-Freighter conducted its first flight in April 2024, followed by its first public appearance at the Farnborough Airshow in July 2024.  Embraer’s E-Freighter program began in May 2022 to fill the gap in the air cargo market, and to replace older, less efficient models.

In Monday’s announcement, Embraer Commercial Aviation’s Chief Commercial Officer, Martyn Holmes, said,

“EASA certification is a key milestone in our passenger-to-freighter conversion program. This is an exciting market, and we have developed the perfect aircraft to fill the gap, meeting the demand globally for faster deliveries, not just to metro areas, but all regions.  The E-Jets are a global success with a large footprint worldwide, we are now ready to offer the highest standard of freighter solution to customers globally.”

When Embraer E-Jets are converted to freighters, they offer over 40 percent more capacity by volume, three times the range of large cargo turboprops, and up to 30 percent lower operating costs compared to larger narrowbody freighters.  With the combined main deck and cargo hold capacity, the E190F can accommodate a structural payload of 13,500 kg.

Headquartered in Brazil, Embraer is a global aerospace company and one of the leading manufacturers of aircraft with 70-150 seats, with more than 100 customers worldwide.  The company maintains industrial units, offices and service/parts distribution centers across the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe.  Embraer also has businesses in Executive Aviation, Defense & Security, and Agricultural Aviation.  Since the company’s founding in 1969, Embraer has delivered over 9,000 aircraft.  Today, an Embraer aircraft takes off on average every ten seconds, carrying over 145 million passengers annually.
