Emirates SkyCargo has doubled their Boeing 777 Freighter orderbook with a new order for five additional aircraft. The new purchase expands Emirates’ total Boeing orderbook to 245 widebody airplanes.
On Tuesday (July 16, 2024), Boeing announced that Emirates SkyCargo has placed an order for five additional Boeing 777 Freighters, bringing their orderbook for the type to 10 aircraft. The incremental 777F order expands Emirates’ overall orderbook with Boeing to 245 widebody aircraft. Emirates SkyCargo is the cargo division of Emirates, the world’s largest international airline. The new 777 Freighter investment will expand the carrier’s main deck cargo capacity 30 percent by 2026, and grows Emirates’ dedicated freighter fleet to 17 airplanes, including factory built 777 Freighters, 777 passenger-to-freighter conversions, and 747 Freighters.
In Tuesday’s announcement, Emirates Airline and Group’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Maktoum, said,
“Demand for our world-class product and services is growing exponentially, further amplified by Dubai's Economic Agenda which aims to double foreign trade and reinforce the city's position as a global trading hub. This investment in additional Boeing 777 capacity enables us to cater to customer demand and marks a step forward on our long-term strategic growth plan. The next phase of our strategy will include a full assessment for our future freighter fleet reviewing all aircraft options to ensure we are best equipped to respond to the evolving demands of the market and reaffirming our confidence in the role of airfreight and, more specifically, Emirates SkyCargo, in global trade.”
Also commenting on the incremental 777 Freighter order, Boeing Commercial Airplanes’ President and CEO, Stephanie Pope, added,
“We are honored that Emirates SkyCargo, renowned for operational excellence and innovation, has once again selected the Boeing 777 Freighter to extend the reach of its global network. We deeply value Emirates' trust in the Boeing widebody family and are committed to supporting their long-term strategic growth plan.”
The Boeing 777 Freighter can carry more freight (102 metric tons/112 tons) a greater distance (4,970 nautical miles/9,200 km) than any other twin-engine cargo jet. This allows operators to offer more long-range, direct flights connecting markets such as the Middle East with the U.S. and Europe without refueling.
Boeing provides over 90 percent of the worldwide dedicated freighter capacity, including new production and converted models. The 777 Freighter is Boeing’s best-selling freighter of all time, with over 265 of the type delivered to date. Boeing’s relationship with the Middle East region dates back to 1945, and the company currently maintains offices in Riyadh, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Kuwait.
