Boeing has been selected to provide Etihad Airways with the Jeppesen FliteDeck Advisor digital solution for their Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet. The application will allow the carrier to optimize operational efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.
On Friday (March 4, 2022), Boeing announced that Etihad Airways has selected the Jeppesen FliteDeck Advisor digital solution to optimize the operational efficiency and reduce fuel consumption for their Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet. Etihad has already found benefits from the use of FliteDeck Advisor during a trial on several 787s, with the solution delivering a cruise fuel savings of 1.4 percent, saving an average of 350 kilograms of fuel and 1,100 kilograms of CO2 per flight. Since 2019, Boeing and Etihad have collaborated on sustainability efforts, including participation in Boeing’s ecoDemonstrator program where FliteDeck Advisor was trialed.
In Friday’s announcment, Etihad Airways’ Vice President of Flight Operations, Sulaiman Yaqoobi, said,
“We have been very pleased with the fuel and cost savings we have achieved with FliteDeck Advisor. FliteDeck Advisor was tested as part of the Etihad Greenliner program, and it is great to now see it deployed across the 787 fleet, helping Etihad achieve efficiency gains and reduce CO2 emissions.”
Boeing Global Services’ Vice President of Digital Aviation Solutions, Duane Wehking, added,
“Etihad has been a tremendous partner in advancing sustainable aviation technologies, and we are excited to continue providing them with solutions that help them decarbonize their fleet while meeting their commercial goals.”
Jeppesen FliteDeck Advisor analyzes airplane-specific performance metrics for all Boeing aircraft, including changes over time with aircraft age and maintenance actions. The digital tool allows crews to make small real-time adjustments to course, altitude and speed to optimize fuel use. Etihad also uses other Boeing digital solutions to optimize their 787 fleet including Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro, Jeppesen Crew Rostering and Boeing Wind Updates, which provide crew scheduling, charting, navigation and flight efficiency capabilities. Etihad Airways is the largest Boeing 787 operator in the Middle East with a fleet of 39 Dreamliners.
