On Monday (February 1, 2021), flydubai announced the resumption of two flights weekly between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Tbilisi International Airport in Georgia (TBS) effective immediately. Nationals and residents of Bahrain and the UAE can travel to Tbilisi providing they have a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours of departure. Visitors to Georgia will also have to take another COVID-19 test on their third day after arrival at their own expense. As an alternative, flydubai guests who hold a COVID-19 vaccination certificate will also be able to travel.

In Monday’s announcement, flydubai’s Senior Vice President – Commercial Operations and E-Commerce, Jeyhun Efendi, said,

“We have steadily grown our network to more than 65 destinations and are pleased to restart our operations to Tbilisi.  We will continue to launch flights to more destinations as restrictions ease in countries within our geographic reach. Flights are available to book on flydubai.com.”

In a separate announcement today, flydubai Cargo announced a major new milestone as they have received regulatory approval from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the UAE to transport dangerous goods in addition to general cargo, courier, live animals, postal mail, perishables, priority cargo and high-value cargo. Speaking on the ongoing diversification of their service portfolio, flydubai Cargo’s Vice President, Mohamed Hassan, said,

“The role that air cargo plays in the supply chain industry has been especially highlighted during the pandemic to ensure vital goods continue to be transported to where they are needed the most. We continue to invest in the latest technologies and look at opportunities to grow flydubai’s capabilities and reach. This certification will allow us to continue to work closely with our strategic partners to deliver a wider range of products to our customers while following the highest safety standards set by the regulators and the aircraft manufacturer. The team at flydubai has undergone an intensive training programme to achieve this new milestone and we will continue to enhance our product offering in line with the latest global standards and best practices.”

Last month, flydubai joined the World Logistics Passport (WLP) program, a major initiative established by Dubai to promote trading opportunities between developing markets. The program was designed as a points loyalty scheme to incentivize traders to use Dubai’s world-class logistics facilities in return for cost and time savings as well as enhanced custom clearances. Launched in 2012, flydubai Cargo has established a growing global network through interline agreements with other airlines and a partnership with Emirates SkyCargo. The company’s cargo division now provides cargo solutions beyond the flydubai network to point in North Africa, the GCC, the Middle East the Subcontinent and the US.
