Frontier Airlines is today celebrating the opening of a new crew base at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The base is expected to support up to 290 pilot and cabin crew positions, plus maintenance and airport jobs.
On Wednesday (June 5, 2024), Frontier Airlines announced the opening of a new crew base at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The carrier’s new base is expected to support up to 90 pilot and 200 cabin crew positions during the first year of operation. Along with airport and maintenance jobs, Frontier expects to generate nearly $84 million in local wages annually. Celebrating the new San Juan base opening, the airline is offering one-way fares from only $29 (T&Cs apply).
In Wednesday’s announcement, Frontier Airlines’ CEO, Barry Biffle, said,
“This new crew base underscores just how vital San Juan has become to our operations as we continue to grow our service between Puerto Rico and the U.S. mainland, as well as to other islands in the Caribbean. As we aim to connect consumers with affordable and convenient travel options and help increase tourism to Puerto Rico, this base will support our growing presence and provide meaningful impact to the local economy. We want to extend our deepest appreciation to the Puerto Rican government and all our tourism and business partners here for making this day possible.”
The new San Juan Base opening also coincides with the launch of 11 new routes from SJU this month, with destinations across the U.S. and the Caribbean. Frontier will also start new direct service to Barbados (BGI) on July 3rd, as well as to Trinidad (POS) on July 11, 2024. In total, Frontier will serve 28 destinations from San Juan, more than any other airline.
