Earlier this week Gulf Air and SriLankan Airlines announced a new codeshare partnership. The agreement went into effect on Wednesday December 18, 2019 and will enhance the travel opportunities for customers of both airlines.
On Wednesday, Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, announced a new codeshare partnership that takes effect immediately. Under the new agreement SriLankan Airlines will place its ‘UL’ code on Gulf Air’s flights from Bahrain to Colombo, Athens and Larnaca (Cyprus) and Casablanca. Likewise, Gulf Air will place its ‘GF’ code on SriLankan Airlines’ flights from Colombo to Bahrain. The new codeshare agreement followed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which was signed with the purpose of strengthening commercial ties between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. In Wednesday’s announcement, Gulf Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Krešimir Kučko said,
“We are happy to sign this codeshare agreement with SriLankan Airlines and increase the number of direct flights between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Sri Lanka. We value our partnerships and SriLankan is our newest codeshare partner in our overall strategy to expand our operations. I feel confident that this codeshare will add value to the customers of both airlines.”
Also commenting on Wednesday’s announcement, SriLankan Airlines’ Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Vipula Gunatilleka added,
“We are pleased to enter into this codeshare agreement with Gulf Air. It is part of SriLankan’s operational strategy to create and strengthen partnerships with airlines of global reputation in terms of quality, service and reliability and we have no doubt that SriLankan’s valued passengers will enjoy their travel with Gulf Air.”
