Gulf Air Releases 70th Anniversary Documentary Featuring Airline and Government VIPs

Gulf Air has released a 20 minute documentary highlighting the airline’s 70 years of history in the region. The video features key figures from the Kingdom of Bahrain who were part of the airline’s history or linked to the carrier’s evolution at different stages.

On Thursday (August 5, 2021), Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, released a special 70th anniversary documentary highlighting the airline’s history in the region. The 20 minute documentary takes viewers on a journey from Gulf Air’s founding in 1950 through seven decades to 2020. The video features prominent figures from the Kingdom of Bahrain who were part of the airline’s history or were instrumental in the carrier’s evolution at various stages and eras. Topics discussed in the documentary focus on Gulf Air’s reflection to Bahrain’s identity, the idea of forming an airline based in Bahrain, the Gulf Aviation days, the involvement of BOAC, GCC states joining the airline, the airline’s many innovations, and how Gulf Air highlights the Kingdom globally as a carrier of culture and growth.


In Thursday’s announcement, Gulf Air’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Captain Waleed Abdulhameed, said,


“Gulf Air has come a long way since its establishment as Gulf Aviation in 1950. Today it is the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain and it connects the island with many parts of the world. Gulf Air is a key asset to Bahrain’s economic wheel as it contributes to its GDP in various forms such as inbound tourism traffic, transit traffic, imports and exports cargo as well as promoting Bahrain on a global scale through major sponsorship and events.”



Founded in 1950, Gulf Air is the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain and normally serves 49 cities in 27 countries. From its hub at Bahrain International Airport, the airline offers twice daily service to 10 or more regional cities as well as international flights to the Indian subcontinent and Europe. Gulf Air currently operates a modern fleet of 33 narrow and widebody aircraft and by 2023 their fleet will consist of 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, 12 Airbus A320neos and 17 Airbus A321neos. The airline is known for its traditional Arabian hospitality, and Gulf Air is committed to becoming an industry leader by developing products and services that reflect the evolving needs and aspirations of their guests.
