Iberia has appointed Elena Baillo as the carrier’s new Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Area Director. She succeeds José Antonio Barrionuevo who joins British Airways as Chief Financial and Transformation Officer.
On Thursday (June 15, 2023), Iberia announced the appointment of Elena Baillo as Chief Financial Officer. She Joins Iberia from Iberia Express, where she currently serves as CFO and Corporate Area Director. Between 1999 and 2011, Baillo was Iberia’s Director of Investor Relations and from 2011 through 2014 she served as Director of Management Control. Elena Baillo assisted with Iberia’s IPO process in April 2001 and worked on the launch of Iberia Express in 2012. She is also a member of Iberia’s Board of Directors. Ms. Baillo succeeds José Antonio Barrionuevo who will join British Airways as Chief Financial and Transformation Officer, after ten year leading Iberia’s transformation, strategy and finance teams.
Elena Baillo has also held important positions with IAG, where she served as Director of Financial Transformation from 2014 until 2016. After that time, she served as Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Area Director with Iberia Express. She holds a degree in Law from CEU San Pablo, and has also completed an advanced program in Structured Finance at IE. Baillo will return to Iberia in July to take over from José Antonio Barrionuevo, who will, as previously mentioned, become CFO and Transformation Director at British Airways.
Mr. Barrionuevo joined Iberia in 2013 as Strategy and Transformation Director, and was later appointed Director of Strategic Planning and Finance in 2016, also becoming a member of both the Management Committee and Board of Directors. Over the last decade, he designed and executed Iberia’s Future Plan and successfully led the airline’s financial transformation, resulting in a record operating profit of €497 million in 2019. Barrionuevo also helped lead Iberia through the global COVID-19 pandemic, and was part of the team that negotiated the 100 percent acquisition of Air Europa, which is currently under regulatory review.
