Iberia Launches New Service to Four Popular Winter Destinations

This past weekend, Iberia launched new service to Salzburg, Innsbruck, Tromsø and Rovaniemi.  Visitors to these destinations can enjoy attractions such as Christmas markets, snow sports, the Northern Lights and Santa’s House, to name a few.

On Sunday (December 1st, 2024), Iberia announced  the launch of new service to four popular and festive winter destinations including Salzburg and Innsbruck in Austria, as well as Tromsø in Norway and Rovaniemi in Finland.  All four routes were launched this past weekend in time for the Christmas season.  Visitors to these magical winter destinations will enjoy attractions such as Christmas markets, snow sports, the Northern Lights, Santa’s House and more.  The carrier will offer two weekly flights to Innsbruck, Salzburg and Tromsø, and up to four weekly flights to Rovaniemi. 


In Sunday’s announcement, Iberia’s Sales Manager for Europe, OM, and Asia, Carmen Giraud, said,


“We are very excited to launch these destinations, which we believe will be very well received by our customers, especially those who love snow sports and Christmas markets.  We are going to start operations this year with two weekly flights and we hope to repeat or even increase frequencies or duration next year, as happened with Rovaniemi, which we launched last year.     This winter season we are offering more flights and for longer periods to Lapland, which represents an increase of 74% compared to last year.”


Surrounded by the majestic Tyrolean Alps, Innsbruck is known for its natural beauty and rich history, making it a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts and those looking to explore its cultural heritage.  The stunning Austrian destination hosted the winter Olympic Games in both 1964 and 1976.  Flights between Madrid and Innsbruck will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays until March 26, 2025. 


Salzburg is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and was the setting for the iconic film, ‘The Sound of Music.’  In addition to its incredible cultural heritage, travelers to Salzburg during the winter season will enjoy the festive Christmas markets with dozens of wooden stalls, decorated with lights, and selling handicrafts and local food.  The most famous of these is the Christkindlmarkt, located in Salzburg’s market square, complemented by smaller markets such as the one in Residenplatz, ore the one located in the gardens of Hellbrunn Palace.  Flights to Salzburg will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays through March 29, 2025.

Tromsø, known as the Arctic capital, is one of the best cities in the world to observe the spectacular Northern Lights.  Situated above the Arctic Circle, Tromsø is the ideal destination for those looking to enjoy snow activities and nature.  At the end of each January, the town plays host to the Northern Lights Festival, which offers classical, modern and jazz music performances in a natural setting surrounded by fjords.  Flights to Tromsø will operate on Thursdays and Sundays until March 2, 2025.

Located in the Finnish Lapland, Rovaniemi is one of the most iconic Christmas destinations, and is known worldwide as the official home of Santa Claus.  Each year, thousands of tourists visit Rovaniemi to deliver their letters and gift requests to Santa.  Additionally, Rovaniemi is an ideal destinations for outdoor activities such as sleigh rides, ice fishing, snowmobile excursions, and to view the Northern Lights.  Flights Rovaniemi will operate four times weekly during December on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.  Guests onboard flights to Rovaniemi will be treated to letters to be delivered to Santa and delicious Christmas cookies.
