Icelandair has announced the signing of new codeshare partnerships with Atlantic Airways, Air Greenland and TAP Air Portugal. The Atlantic Airways and Air Greenland codeshare flights are expected to be fully implemented in the first quarter of 2025.
On Thursday (October 17, 2024), Icelandair announced the signing of new codeshare partnerships with Atlantic Airways and Air Greenland, with codeshare flights expected to be fully implemented by Q1 2025. With the new agreements, travelers will enjoy enhanced connectivity to/from the Faroe Islands and Greenland, as well as convenient one-stop connections to North America and Europe with Icelandair.
In Thursday’s announcement, Icelandair’s CEO, Bogi Nils Bogason, said,
“What we have in common is that we are all island nations that rely on efficient air transport to connect with the world and for the prosperity of our countries. By joining forces and formalizing our partnerships, we will further strengthen air connectivity in the West Nordic region and in the Arctic, which is an important foundation for future development in this part of the world. We are also pleased to connect Greenland and the Faroe Islands to our extensive sales and distribution networks in North America, Europe, and in other global markets, such as Asia, and thereby further promoting these great tourist destinations.
“The Arctic Circle has established itself as one of the most important forums in the world on the Arctic, and by hosting its annual Assembly here, Iceland has become a center for discussion about the Arctic. It is therefore a pleasure to sign these agreements here today.”
Also commenting on the new codeshare partnership, Atlantic Airways’ CEO, Jóhanna á Bergi, said,
“Atlantic Airways is excited about our partnership with our sister nation in the North-West, which will bring us closer together and strengthen our shared foundation. This agreement is vital both commercially and for our countries, fostering deeper connections and mutual growth.
“Joining Icelandair's diverse route network offers significant advantages, enabling us to collectively provide better and more flexible services to our passengers. By linking our air routes, we enhance our visibility and work towards establishing our North-Western nations as prominent travel destinations in the international market.”
Air Greenland’s CEO, Jacob Nitter, added,
“With this landmark codeshare agreement, Air Greenland is thrilled to enhance connectivity across the Nordics and the Arctic. By collaborating with Icelandair and Atlantic Airways, we’re bridging our communities and opening new doors for travelers, making it easier than ever to explore the rich cultures and breathtaking landscapes of our northern regions. Together, we're creating seamless travel opportunities and strengthening ties throughout the Nordics and the Arctic, from the Faroe Islands and Iceland to Greenland and beyond to Nunavut, Arctic Canada. This partnership marks an exciting chapter in our mission to connect the North like never before.”
In a previous press release on Monday (October 14, 2024), Icelandair announced an expansion of their longstanding commercial partnership with TAP Air Portugal with the signing of a nee codeshare agreement at TAP’s offices at Lisbon Airport. The new bilateral codeshare partnership will go into effect in the coming weeks, allowing customers of both airlines to connect to both networks with one ticket, and baggage checked through to the final destination. TAP’s network includes 90 destinations across the world, including Europe, Africa, and South America.
Icelandair’s network spans 60 destinations in Europe and North America, and both airlines offer ‘Stopover Programs’ offering travelers the opportunity to enjoy Iceland and Portugal on their way between destinations, at no additional airfare cost.
Speaking on the new codeshare with TAP Air Portugal, Icelandair’s CEO, Bogi Nils Bogason, said,
“We are excited to add TAP to our impressive list of codeshare partners. We recently started services to Lisbon and by sharing a code with TAP, we will be able to greatly increase connectivity for both airlines’ customers. Customers traveling from Iceland can stop over in Lisbon on their way onwards to TAP’s impressive list of destinations. TAP’s customers can fly via Lisbon to Iceland and even onwards to Icelandair’s extensive network.”
TAP Air Portugal’s CEO, Luis Rodrigues, added,
“We believe that this partnership with Icelandair will enrich the portfolio of travel choices and destinations we offer to customers throughout our network. As we partner with Icelandair, we will be able to offer seamless flight journeys to Iceland, one of the most exciting travel destinations, and open our comprehensive network of destinations available from our Lisbon hub to all Icelandair customers. We look forward to working together with Icelandair for the benefits of all travel lovers.”
