On Monday (June 19, 2023), from the Paris Air Show, CFM International announced that Jet2 plc has ordered additional CFM LEAP-1A engines to power up to 71 new Airbus A320neo Family aircraft. With the incremental order, Jet2 has ordered LEAP engines to power a total of 98 firm aircraft orders and 48 options. The deal also includes spare engines and a long-term services support agreement, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028. UK-based Jet2 has been a CFM customer since 2002 and today’s announcement extends the companies long-standing relationship. In March 2022, Jet2 plc placed their first order for LEAP-1A engines to power a fleet of up to 75 Airbus A321neos, of which 63 are firm orders. Jet2’s first LEAP-powered aircraft from this order entered service in May 2023.

In Monday’s announcement, Jet2 plc’s Executive Chairman, Philip Meeson, said,

“We are delighted to further develop our 20-year partnership with CFM, which has supported our continuous success and growth since the beginning. The introduction of the fuel-efficient LEAP engine in our fleet, combined with our major investment in UK SAF production facilities, will help make our operations more sustainable and provide the best customer experience.”

CFM International’s President and CEO, Gaël Meheust, added,

“Jet2’s renewed trust in our products and teams is a real honor that commits us to keep providing them with the best CFM standards in terms of utilization and support. We share with Jet2 the same ambition to invest in technologies which will make air transport even more sustainable in the coming years.”

The CFM LEAP Family of engines continue to set new industry standards for utilization and sustainability. The combined fleet has logged over 30 million commercial flight hours and 15 million flight cycles. Since entering service, the advanced LEAP-1A engine has accumulated nearly 23 million flight hours and 11 million flight cycles, while delivering 15-20 percent better fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions, as well as a substantially smaller noise footprint versus previous generation engines. Since entering service in 2016, CFM LEAP engines have allowed operators to save over 20 million tons of CO2.
