On Tuesday (February 11, 2025) JetBlue announced the celebration of their 25th anniversary, with the carrier’s first passenger revenue flight between New York (JFK) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) taking place on February 11, 2000.  After a quarter century, the route still operates as JetBlue Flight #1.  With the goal of ‘Bringing Humanity Back to Air Travel,’ JetBlue has set new standards for innovation and customer service.  Celebrations today were marked with festivities, giveaways, a birthday sale and the unveiling of a new, special aircraft livery.

In Tuesday’s announcement, JetBlue’s Chief Executive Officer, Joanna Geraghty, said,

As we celebrate 25 groundbreaking years of JetBlue, I’m filled with gratitude and pride for the remarkable journey we’ve taken together.  Our mission of bringing humanity back to air travel has set us apart, and our amazing crewmembers are redefining what it means to truly care for our customers and each other.

“Our combination of affordable air fares and award-winning service has given us a unique place in the industry as a bit of a maverick disruptor, and we are still building on that reputation.  The industry has changed a lot since 2000 and we’ve changed with it, but we’re continuing to put our customers at the center of our plan for the next chapter of JetBlue.”

The new, special ‘BlueUnity’ livery recognizes and pays tribute to JetBlue’s over 23,000 crewmembers.  The freshly painted Airbus A321 operated today’s celebratory Flight #1 from New York to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  The unique livery was dreamed up by JetBlue crewmember Ray Matthew, and brought to life in a tribute to the airline’s team members.  Some eye-catching design elements include a bold side fuselage tagline which reads, ‘Honoring the fly-est crew in the biz.’

Commenting on the unique livery design, JetBlue’s CEO, Joanna Geraghty, added,

“Building a unique culture focused on caring for the crewmembers was always core to the JetBlue model, and this new livery speaks to exactly that.  It’s truly awe-inspiring to think about the countless individuals, many working behind the scenes, who make our airline so special. Painting it on the side of a plane lets everyone in on the secret of JetBlue’s success—our crewmembers.

Commencing operations in 2000 with only 10 destinations, JetBlue has expanded to serve over 100 destinations across 31 countries on three continents.  JetBlue innovations such as the first all-leather seating to the first seatback TV screen with live entertainment, the first free unlimited Wi-Fi on every aircraft, and free name-brand snacks, has made the carrier a standout in the crowded U.S. airline industry.

JetBlue is ‘New York’s Hometown Airline®’ and a leading carrier in Boston (BOS), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Los Angeles (LAX), Orlando (MCO) and San Juan (SJU).  The airline carries guests to over 100 destinations across the U.S., Caribbean, Latin America, the UK (London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Edinburgh), Paris, Amsterdam and Dublin.  JetBlue Airways Corporation trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol JBLU.
