On Wednesday (June 26, 2024), JetBlue announced that they will apply to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for slot exemptions to operate a second daily nonstop flight between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  The recent FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 authorizes slot exemptions for five additional roundtrip flights at DCA, beyond the airport’s 1,250 mile perimeter.  JetBlue has operated daily nonstop service between DCA and SJU since 2012, when the carrier was granted slot exemptions from the DOT.

In Wednesday’s announcement, JetBlue’s Head of Government Affairs and General Counsel, Robert land, said,

“JetBlue looks forward to submitting our application to enhance the connection between Reagan National and our focus city, San Juan, with convenient double-daily low fare roundtrip flights between the two capitals.  Puerto Rico, known as ‘La Isla del Encanto,’ relies on air service to maintain and enhance its connection with the mainland United States, and to Washington, D.C. in particular.”

JetBlue is ‘New York’s Hometown Airline®’ and a leading carrier in Boston (BOS), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Los Angeles (LAX), Orlando (MCO) and San Juan (SJU).  The airline carries guests to over 100 destinations across the U.S., Caribbean, Latin America, the UK (London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Edinburgh), Paris, Amsterdam and Dublin.  JetBlue Airways Corporation trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol JBLU.
