On Wednesday (April 2, 2025), KLM announced that their first-ever flight to Billund, Denmark with an Airbus A321neo tool place yesterday.  The carrier’s new Airbus A321neo delivers an approximately 21 percent reduction in fuel use compared to the Boeing 737 it replaces, and also offers more comfort and overhead bin space.  In total, KLM will have 10 Airbus A321neos in service by the end of 2025.  As the carrier continues to renew their fleet, their older 737s will be replaced with Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft on medium-haul European routes.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Air France and KLM’s Sustainability Lead, North Europe, Maria Hagelberg, said,

“We are pleased to be able to offer our travelers in Billund a modern aircraft with better comfort and less climate impact.  This new generation of more fuel-efficient aircraft is an important part of our sustainability strategy, and is one of the steps towards reducing emissions by 30 percent per passenger kilometer by 2030.  In addition to the environmental benefits, the aircraft type offers increased comfort with wider seats, larger tables and a wider aisle.  Each seat is equipped with a USB-C port, as well as a holder for a mobile or tablet.  We hope that our passengers will appreciate the new addition to our fleet.”

Also commenting on KLM’s new Airbus A321neo service, Billund Airport’s CEO, Jan Hessellund, added,

It is fantastic that KLM is now deploying the state-of-the-art A321 on the route from Billund to Amsterdam. First and foremost, it is a great benefit for the many travelers on the route.  At the same time, it emphasizes that the relationship between KLM and Billund Airport is strong . It is quite unique that an airport of Billund’s size has 5 to 6 daily departures to Amsterdam.  In fact, only big cities like London, Berlin and Copenhagen have more.  With almost 450,000 travelers last year alone, the route is more popular than ever, and the collaboration with KLM is a huge success story that continues to grow. The new aircraft contributes significantly to this.”
