Boeing has today announced that LATAM Airlines has placed a new order for 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, and secured options for five more. The region's largest 787 operator, LATAM plans on growing their 787 fleet to 52 airplanes by the end of the decade.
On Monday (October 28, 2024), Boeing announced that LATAM Airlines has placed an order for 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in a deal that also includes options for five more. LATAM is Latin America’s largest 787 operator, and plans on growing their Dreamliner fleet to 52 airplanes by the end of the decade. The carrier currently operates 37 787-8s and 787-9s, which enables them to maximize capacity on popular routes, and launch new routes, including nonstop service to Sydney, Australia.
In Monday’s announcement, LATAM Airlines Group’s Chief Financial Officer, Ramiro Alfonsín, said,
“The Boeing 787 is a much more efficient aircraft, allowing us to continue growing sustainably while reducing our carbon footprint as we drive the growth of our operations. This order will enable us to receive at least two aircraft of this model each year from 2025 until the end of the decade.”
Also commenting on the new 787 order, Boeing’s Vice President Sales – Latin America and the Caribbean, Mike Wilson, said,
“We appreciate LATAM's continued confidence in the 787 Dreamliner family to further expand its international network from hubs in Santiago, Sao Paulo and Lima. As demand for air travel rises, we will continue to support LATAM's growth strategy and goal of connecting Latin America with the world.”
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner Family offers unparalleled fuel efficiency, allowing airlines to reduce fuel use and emissions by 25 percent compared to the airplanes they replace. Since entering service in 2011, 787 Dreamliners have allowed operators to launch over 400 new direct routes, avoiding more than 173 billion pounds of carbon emisssions.
