Lufthansa’s Trachtencrews have once again taken flight from Munich in celebration of the start of Oktoberfest 2023, with the first flight departing Munich for Mexico City on Friday, September 15, 2023.

On Friday (September 15, 2023), Lufthansa once again marked the start of Oktoberfest, as their Trachtencrew took off from Munich for Mexico City, which will be followed by a traditional ‘Dirndl Flight’ to Washington D.C. on September 24th. Instead of the classic Lufthansa unform, female cabin crew wear dirndls, while the men wear lederhosen. Trachtencrews will staff select flights from Munich to German, European and intercontinental destinations during Oktoberfest, and Lufthansa ground staff at Munich’s Terminal 2 passenger service department will also be wearing traditional costumes.
This year, the renowned Lufthansa dirndl has again been designed by Angermaier, a Munich-based costume design specialist, and the collection has been certified according to ‘STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX’, as in prior years. The standard ensures that all materials were made sustainability. All materials for the collection were sourced in Europe, including cloth woven exclusively in Austria. In celebration of Oktoberfest 2023, Lufthansa’s First and Business Class guests will enjoy Bavarian specialties until the end of September, while terminal lounges will also serve Bavarian delicacies.
