On Monday (July 22, 2024), from the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow (FIA), Boeing announced that European regional carrier Luxair has placed an order for two Boeing 737-10 MAX jets, plus two options.  The new order for the largest MAX variant adds to Luxair’s order for 737-7 and 737-8 MAX models placed last year.  According to Boeing, the 737-10 MAX provides the best economics for any single-aisle jet.

In Monday’s announcement, Luxair’s CEO, Gilles Feith, said,

“The purchase of the 737-10 is another step towards Luxair positioning for its future with the investment in the latest airplane technology that will support Luxair's growth plans and the decarbonization of our fleet.  There is high commonality between the 737 MAX models, and this allows for significant operational savings for the airline.  In addition to reducing overall fuel use and emissions, the 737 MAXs will help create a 50 percent smaller noise footprint by reducing noise generated by takeoffs and landings at Luxembourg Airport.”

Also commenting on the new 737-10 MAX order, Boeing’s SVP – Commercial Sales and Marketing, Brad McMullen, said,

“With three members of the 737 MAX family in its fleet, Luxair will have the flexibility to use the right-size airplane according to the market demand.  We appreciate Luxair for choosing the 737-10 to support its growth and improve the passenger experience, while realizing the benefits of operating an increasingly fuel-efficient fleet.”

The Boeing 737 MAX Family offers a 20 percent reduction in fuel use and emissions compared to the airplane it replaces.  Luxair’s 737-10 MAX jets will offer guests a minimum pitch of 30-inches, and will be able to carry 213 passengers on routes as long as 3,100 nautical miles (5,740 km).  Over the last two years, Luxair has increased their network by 30 percent, and the carrier now serves 94 destinations.

Founded in 1961, Luxair is a key player and major employer in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Greater Region.  The carrier serves most of Europe’s largest cities, business centers and international hubs.  Through their tour operating division, Luxair offers a wide range of package deals and thematic holidays.  Luxair is the sole airport service provider at Luxembourg Airport, handling passenger assistance and all tasks related to the efficient servicing of landed aircraft.  Luxair’s catering division prepares appetizing inflight meals and loading them on-time and in the freshest condition.  The airline’s freight division operates one of the largest freight distribution centers in Europe.  Luxair currently operates a fleet of 21 airplanes, including eight Boeing 737NGs, and two leased Boeing 787-8 MAX jets.
