New ‘Digs’ for Delta at New York’s LaGuardia Airport; Company Announces New Delivery Partnership

Updated: Jan 11, 2020

On Tuesday, Delta announced the opening of their new 105K square foot concourse at New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA). The event marks a major milestone in the airport’s $8B transformation, announced a decade ago.

New Yorkers loved to hate LaGuardia Airport because it was outdated, crowded and often subject to long flight delays. However, it is convenient to New York City and often offers routes and frequencies not available at the other NYC airport, JFK. Ten years ago, the airport launched a major $8B initiative to transform the airport’s image. Yesterday, Delta Air Lines cut the ribbon on their new 105K square concourse at the airport. Passengers will undoubtedly welcome the new spacious concourse which will ultimately become Delta’s Terminal C. The first new concourse has seven gates at Delta’s new terminal, located on the eastern side of the airport. During yesterday’s ceremony, Delta Air Lines’ CEO, Ed Bastian stated,

“Two years ago, we set out to build a state-of-the-art facility at LaGuardia Airport, an airport that our customers and the people of new York deserve. Thanks to the commitment and hard work of the Delta team and our many partners, today marks the beginning of a new era for millions of Delta customers at LaGuardia. The excitement that is building here is palpable and contagious, and we are already looking ahead to many more milestones to come”

Delta’s new concourse will offer floor-to-ceiling views of Citi Field (home of the Mets) and Flushing Bay. When completed, the new terminal will have 37 gates across four concourses and offer passengers a combination of unique locally inspired restaurants, more seating and plenty of outlets for charging devices.

Delta Cargo Partnership

In a separate press release Tuesday, Delta announced a new partnership between Delta Cargo and Roadie which will offer DASH® Door-to-Door service. This will make Delta the first U.S. passenger airline to offer seamless “last mile” delivery and pickup. The service has been launched in Atlanta, providing service to over 55 US cities and the partnership plans to expend to dozens more cities by year’s end. In yesterday’s announcement, Delta’s Director of Cargo Strategy and Alliances, Matt Weisenburg said,

“The launch of DASH Door-to-Door is a game changer for Delta Cargo, as anyone who needs to get a small parcel somewhere urgently can now have same-day delivery, door-to-door service in the U.S., without having to travel to the airport. We have been working with Roadie since 2015 on the passenger side of the business and have seen great customer satisfaction with the transparency and quality of the service. So, we wanted to continue this momentum and bring this innovative product offering to our cargo customers.”

Roadie has the largest local same-day delivery footprint in the nation, with more than 150K verified drivers. Currently, Roadie can provide service to 89% of U.S. households, and the company has plans to extend their reach coast-to-coast.
