On Tuesday (April 8, 2025), Nolinor Aviation announced the acquisition of the former North Cariboo Air complex in Edmonton.  This marks a milestone in Nolinor’s expansion in Western Canada and their commitment to providing tailored air transportation solutions to remote regions.  The 41,600 square-foot complex includes a passenger terminal, modern offices, specialized workshops and a 30,000 square-foot hangar.  This site will serve as a regional hub for Nolinor’s growing operations, particularly in support of FIFO (Fly-in Fly-out)  programs that have expanded since the signing of a long-term contract last year.

In Tuesday’s announcement, Nolinor Aviation’s President, Marco Prud’Homme, said,

“This investment demonstrates our commitment to Edmonton and surrounding communities. We are committed to infrastructure, local talent, and services that meet the specific needs of our northern customers.  We are here to support mining and resource development projects with flexible, efficient, and reliable air services.”

The FBO (fixed-base operator) complex features passenger check-in counters, security screening, and cargo loading and unloading facilities, ensuring a seamless experience for passengers and cargo alike.  Additionally, the complex offers office space for mining companies seeking on-site staff to  better coordinate operations.  All essential ground support equipment (GSE) will remain in place to maintain optimal efficiency, and several improvements have already been planned.  Nolinor is actively seeking new contracts in the region, and aims to secure at least one additional major FIFO agreement in the coming months.

As part of the company’s expansion, Nolinor will also add an additional Boeing 737-200, an aircraft well suited for reliable operations in remote regions.  They will also open a third heavy maintenance line, the first to be located outside of the Montreal region. This additional capacity will directly support Nolinor’s Yellowknife and Edmonton bases.  Nolinor is actively recruiting candidates to staff this new maintenance line.
