On Thursday (February 6, 2025), Norse Atlantic Airways announced the wet lease of one Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to IndiGo, which will serve long-haul routes out of India from March 2025.  The initial term of the agreement is six months, extendable to up to 18 months, subject to regulatory approval.  This follows a letter of intent (LOI) published on November 29, 2024, for wet lease agreements for six aircraft with a ‘reputable’ international airline.  Norse and IndiGo will continue to explore opportunities to contract additional aircraft and to collaborate further.

In Thursday’s announcement, Norse Atlantic Airways’ Founder and CEO, Bjørn Tore Larsen, said,

“This contract represents an important milestone for Norse as we partner with one of the largest and most reputable airlines in the world. We look forward to support IndiGo’s long haul services, and to deliver an exceptional travel experience to their customers.”

New Delhi, India-based IndiGo is one of the fastest growing airlines in the world.  The carrier operates a fleet of over 380 aircraft, and operates approximately 2,100 daily flights with service to over 85 domestic and more than 30 international destinations.  In 2024, IndiGo carried over 113 million passengers.  To support their long-haul expansion, IndiGo has placed a firm order for 30 Airbus A350-900s with options for up to 70 more, with deliveries scheduled from 2027.  IndiGo’s philosophy is to offer affordable fares, on-time flights, and to provide a courteous and hassle-free guest experience.

Founded in March 2021 by major shareholder and CEO Bjørn Tore Larsen, Norse Atlantic Airways offers affordable transatlantic and European flights along with specialized Charter and ACMI services for tailored travel needs.   The airline’s first flight between Oslo and the U.S. departed on June 14, 2022.  The company’s head office is located in Arendal, Norway, and Norse has a second office in London.  Norse has a fleet of 15 modern, fuel-efficient Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.  The carrier offers service to New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, Bangkok, Cape Town, Oslo, Athens, London, Berlin, Rome and Paris.
