PLAY has appointed Emilio Chacon Monsant as the airline’s new Head of Ancillary Revenue. Mr. Chacon Monsant has extensive airline industry experience, and previously served as Head of Ancillary Revenue for Ryanair.
On Thursday (August 24, 2023), PLAY Airlines announced the appointment of Emilio Chacon Monsant as Head of Ancillary Revenue. Mr. Chacon Monsant has extensive airline industry experience, and previously served as Head of Ancillary Revenue with Ryanair, before becoming Head of Revenue Management: Pricing & Commercial Planning. Prior to joining Ryanair, he also worked for Vueling, Avianca and Aeromexico. Emilio Chacon Monsant is from Spain, where PLAY currently serves eight destinations.
In Thursday’s announcement, PLAY’s Chief Commercial Officer, Sonja Arnórsdóttir, said,
“Emilio´s hiring is a great acquisition for us at PLAY. He brings a lot of experience into the airline which will be an advantage when it comes to increasing our ancillary revenue, an important part of our financial standing.”
Also commenting on his new role at PLAY, Emilio Chacon Monsant, added,

PLAY has been in a steep ramp-up phase for the past two years but now has the all-important pillars to move into its next phase. It is in a perfect position to make great things happen and I am looking forward to achieving these ambitious goals with this great team.”
Founded in 2019 by Arnar Magnússon and launched in June 2021, PLAY is a new Iceland-based low-cost carrier (LCC) which operates flights to nearly 40 destinations between Iceland and Europe, as well as to North America. The carrier’s core motto is ‘Pay Less PLAY More’, meaning that the airline’s customers spend less on airfare and more while enjoying their holiday destination. PLAY’s fleet of 10 Airbus A320/A321neos with an average age of two years is the youngest fleet in Europe.
