Qatar Airways Inks New Codeshare Deal With Deutsche Bahn, Also Launches Osaka Freighter Service

On Monday, Qatar Airways announced a new codeshare partnership with Deutsche Bahn German railways, seamlessly connecting guests to eight key German destinations. The carrier also launched new twice-weekly Boeing 777 Freighter service to Osaka, Japan.

Qatar Airways announced on Monday a new codeshare partnership with the German national railroad Deutsche Bahn. The partnership will allow Qatar Airways’ guests to seamlessly connect to eight key German destinations from the airline’s Frankfurt gateway. Travelers will now be able to connect to Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Hannover, Leipzig, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Munich and Hamburg from Frankfurt. Qatar Airways currently offers 35 weekly flights from Doha to Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin, including twice-daily service to Frankfurt and Munich and daily service to Berlin. In Monday’s announcement, Qatar Airways’ Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker said,


“This codeshare agreement between Qatar Airways and Deutsche Bahn further strengthens the ties between Germany and Qatar. We have witnessed significant growing demand between Germany to Qatar and beyond. Our new codeshare destinations not only meet that demand but provide a service for our valued passengers in Doha, and from dozens of destinations globally to new, exciting places to explore in Germany.”

Also commenting on Monday’s exciting announcement, Deutsche Bahn Management Board Member – Passenger Transport, Berthold Huber added,


“We are very pleased to further intensify our successful and long-standing Rail&Fly cooperation with Qatar Airways through our new codeshare agreement. The Qatar Airways and Deutsche Bahn codeshare offers our joint customers a seamless, easy and flexible journey to and from different German cities.”


In a separate press release Monday, Qatar Airways Cargo announced new twice-weekly Boeing 777 Freighter service to Osaka, Japan starting January 14, 2020. The 777 Freighters will depart Doha on Tuesdays and Fridays and arrive in Osaka the next day, before returning to Doha via Hong Kong. The new service will add about 200 tons of freight capacity to Qatar Airways Cargo’s expanding network. In Yesterday’s announcement, Qatar Airways Chief Officer Cargo, Mr. Guillaume Halleux said,


“2019 has been a great year for Qatar Airways Cargo and we are glad to start 2020 with the announcement of freighters to Osaka, a major financial centre in Japan. Japan is an important part of our network where we already operate daily passenger flights to both Haneda and Narita airports in the capital city, Tokyo. With direct flights to Osaka, our customers are offered dedicated freighter capacity for their cargo to and from Japan.”


The award-winning airline has a strong cargo capacity in the Asia-Pacific region with 35 passenger destinations and 11 freighter destinations, including the new Osaka service. Qatar Airways Cargo now offers 450 tons of belly-hold capacity to and from Japan weekly, carrying general cargo, hi-tech goods, electronics, pharmaceuticals and perishables. The carrier also has an extensive scheduled road transport network serving 290 global airports including overnight truck routes connecting Osaka with Tokyo-Haneda and Tokyo-Haneda and Nagoya Chubu six times per week. Recently, Qatar Airways announced a major expansion of their cargo network with freighter service to Campinas (Brazil), Santiago (Chile), Bogotá (Colombia) and Lima (Peru).
