Qatar Airways Resumes Service to Abha, to Restart Damascus Flights

Qatar Airways has resumed service between Doha and Abha, the carrier’s 11th destination in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  Starting January 7, 2025, the carrier will also restart flights to Syria, with three weekly flights to Damascus.

On Thursday (January 2, 2025), Qatar Airways announced the restart of service between Doha and Abha.  The route will now operate twice weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays, offering seamless connectivity on Qatar Airways’ extensive global network of over 170 destinations.  With the addition of Abha, the carrier will now offer over 140 weekly flights to 11 destinations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including AlUla, Dammam, Jeddah, Medina, NEOM, Qassim, Riyadh, Tabuk, Taif, and Yanbu.  Qatar Airways launched service to Saudia Arabia in January 29, 1997, with their inaugural flight between Doha and Jeddah. 


In Thursday’s announcement, Qatar Airways Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said,


“We are delighted to resume flights to Abha, our 11th gateway in Saudi Arabia.  With over 140 weekly flights, we connect more than 36,000 passengers weekly between Saudi Arabia and Doha.  This highlights our commitment to enhancing connectivity, supporting tourism and strengthening economic and cultural ties between our two nations.”

In a separate press release on Thursday (January 2nd), Qatar Airways announced the restart of service between Doha and Damascus, Syria, with three weekly flights starting January 7, 2025.  The carrier is working with relevant authorities to ensure that all necessary safety, security and operational standards are met before the relaunch.


Also commenting on the restart of service to Syria, Qatar Airways Group’s CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said,


“We are pleased to resume flights to Damascus, a destination of great historical and cultural importance.  This announcement underscores our dedication to fostering connectivity and facilitating travel for our passengers.”

 

Customers traveling to/from Damascus will enjoy Qatar Airways' world-class service and access to Hamad International Airport, regularly ranked as one of the world’s best airports.  Inbound customers to Doha will also enjoy seamless one-stop connectivity to over 170 destinations across Qatar Airways’ extensive global network.
