Rolls-Royce Welcomes ITA Airways’ Order for 10 Airbus A330neos Powered by Trent 7000 Engines

Italian national carrier ITA Airways has ordered 10 Airbus A330neos which will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. The Trent 7000 engines are quieter and offer a 25 percent fuel burn reduction compared to previous generation competitors.

On Thursday (December 2, 2021), Rolls-Royce announced that ITA Airways, the new Italian national airline, has ordered 10 Airbus A330neos, which will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. The Trent 7000 is the latest engine in the Trent Family which was introduced in 2018 and builds on the unsurpassed performance of the Trent 700, combined with the engine technology of the Trent XWB. The engines offer a 25 percent reduction in fuel burn compared to previous generation competitor models and are ready to operate on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The Trent 7000 offers improved efficiency and has demonstrated a dispatch reliability rate of 99.9 percent.


In Thursday’s announcement, Rolls-Royce Civil Aerospace’s Chief Customer Officer, Ewen McDonald, said,


“We are delighted that ITA Airways has selected the Trent 7000 and this agreement represents the start of a great partnership. With an excellent fuel burn performance, the Trent 7000 is the perfect choice to support the airline’s aspirations. We look forward to working with them in the future.”


Also commenting on the new Trent 7000 order, ITA Airways’ Chief Technology Officer, Francesco Presicce, said,


“We are looking forward to welcoming the A330neo, powered by the Trent 7000, to our fleet. The engine forms an important part of our business plan and our goal of operating a new environmentally-friendly fleet.”

Rolls-Royce Holdings plc has customers in over 150 countries, comprised of more than 400 airlines and leasing customers, 160 armed forces and navies, and over 5,000 power and nuclear customers. During 2020, the company had annual underlying turnover of £11.76 billion, and invested £1.25 billion in research and development. The company also supports a global network of 28 University Technology Centres, which positions Rolls-Royce engineers at the forefront of scientific research. Rolls-Royce is a publicly traded company (LSE:RR, ADR:RYCEY).


Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA Airways) was founded in November 2020 and is the new Italian national carrier wholly-owned by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance. ITA Airways currently operates 59 routes to 44 domestic and international destinations, and has plans to grow to 89 routes to 74 destinations by 2025. The carrier has a fleet of 45 narrowbody and seven widebody aircraft.
