On Wednesday (March 24, 2021), Ryanair announced the launch of new twice-weekly service between Newcastle and Chania (Crete) for summer 2021. In Wednesday’s announcement, Ryanair’s Commercial Director, Jason McGuinness, said,

“We are pleased to announce a new Newcastle to Chania route, commencing in July 2021 and flying twice weekly as part of our UK Summer 2021 schedule. Mindful that Covid restrictions change regularly, customers can now book flights for a well-deserved break knowing that if they need to postpone or change their travel dates, they can do so up to two times with a zero change fee until the end of October 2021. To celebrate this new Chania route, we are launching a seat sale with fares available from just £19.99 for travel until the end of October 2021, which must be booked by midnight Sunday, 28th March 2021. Since these amazing low fares will be snapped up quickly, customers should log onto www.ryanair.com to avoid missing out.”

Also commenting on the new route, Newcastle International Airport’s Head of Aviation, Leon McQuaid, added,

“We are delighted that Ryanair has added this twice weekly service to Chania, Crete from July. This is excellent news for those in the North East considering a getaway this summer when travel restrictions are eased. Despite the pandemic and the impact it is having on the aviation industry, this eighth destination from Ryanair shows that Newcastle International Airport is going from strength to strength and we look forward to welcoming customers from across the region to travel to these popular destinations.”
