On Thursday (January 2, 2025), SAS announced a major expansion of their Swedish network with enhanced connectivity within Sweden, as well as to the rest of the world from Stockholm Arlanda Airport.  SAS’ domestic expansion in Sweden has been made possible thanks to a strategic partnership with Braathens Regional Airways AB (BRA), which will operate seven aircraft on SAS’ route network from Arlanda, which will begin ramping up this month.  Two brand new routes will open on January 27, 2025, with service from Arlanda to Kalmar and Halmstad.  The carrier has also launched winter seasonal service between Arlanda and Sälen, as well as between Ängelholm/Helsingborg and Sälen.

In Thursday’s announcement, SAS’ President and CEO, Anko van der Werff, said,

“We are excited to kick off the new year by strengthening our domestic network in Sweden, all from Arlanda.  Our new partnership with BRA will make it easier for people to travel to a wide range of destinations in Sweden, for both outbound and inbound travelers.  We look forward to contributing even further to economic growth and continuing to play a key role in connecting Sweden with the world.”

Also commenting on the carrier’s Arlanda expansion, airport operator Swedavia’s President and CEO, Jonas Abrahamson, added,

“We welcome the new domestic traffic with SAS to Arlanda. As domestic travel consolidates at Sweden’s largest airport, Swedish connectivity is strengthened, increasing opportunities for more people to conveniently travel to any of the nearly 150 international destinations directly accessible from Stockholm Arlanda Airport. In recent years, we have made substantial investments at Arlanda, which our travelers greatly appreciate. We have opened a new, modern, world-class security control and are now gradually opening our new marketplace in Terminal 5. The work to develop the airport continues.”

Additionally, SAS is in the process of establishing another lounge at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, which will be located near the security checkpoint, and is scheduled to open during Q1 2025.  The goal is to provide travelers with a lounge within a short walking distance, regardless of departure gate location.
