Scandinavian Airlines has debuted their first film premiere, ‘Breaking Glass’, a short film inspired by Turi Widerøe and other female aviation pioneers, directed by Nicolas Bori.
On Thursday (December 19, 2024), Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) announced the debut of their first film premiere. Directed by Nicolas Bori, the short film called ‘Breaking Glass’ has been inspired by Turi Widerøe, Bonnie Tiburzi, and other female aviation pioneers. Set in a small town in the 1950s, at a time when gender roles were clearly defined, the film follows the journey of a young girl whose passion for aviation defies societal norms. Breaking Glass is based on the real stories of female aviation pioneers, honoring the women that realized their own dreams and helped reshape the future of aviation. Breaking Glass also celebrates a landmark moment in SAS history becoming the first commercial airline to hire a female pilot in 1969.
In Thursday’s announcement, SAS’ President & CEO, Anko van der Werff, said,
“As we reflect on the magic of the season, their stories remind us of the courage to chase dreams and believe anything is possible. At SAS, we honor the boldness of these incredible women and are inspired by their legacy to welcome more women into the cockpit. Turi Widerøe’s historic hiring at SAS showed the power of breaking barriers and drives our commitment to a more inclusive future. Wishing you a Christmas filled with joy, inspiration, and endless possibilities.”
Also commenting on the Breaking Glass debut, Director Nicolas Bori added,
“The first female pilots achieved what once seemed impossible. Their courage to break norms in the 1950s and 60s inspired me to tell a story that celebrates the power of dreams and ignites hope for future generations. I’m thrilled to have SAS as a presenting partner, given their role in aviation history.”
