SAS has today announced that they have received IATA’s official approval of their IEnvA Assessment Report, marking a major milestone in the carrier’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
On Wednesday (November 6, 2024), SAS announced that they have received official approval from IATA for their IEnvA Assessment Report, marking a substantial milestone in the carrier’s commitment to environmental sustainability. As the industry faces growing headwinds regarding its environmental footprint, SAS is among the airlines leading the way in sustainable practices, as they continuously update their Environmental Management System to align with evolving industry standards.
In Tuesday’s announcement, SAS’ Head of Sustainability, Anne-Sofie Hörlin, said,
“SAS is the first airline within the SkyTeam alliance to receive the IATA IEnvA Assessment Program Certification. Not only that, but we're also the only airline to score this certification across all three Air Operator Certificates (AOCs) – covering everything from flight and ground ops to cargo, products, and services. This accomplishment isn't just about meeting the ISO 14001 standards: it’s about going above and beyond with IATA’s rigorous and aviation specific IEnvA criteria. We are excited to celebrate this milestone and e even more driven to keep redefining the limits for a sustainable future in aviation.”
Building on ISO 14001, the IEnvA standard incorporates aviation-specific IATA requirements. The standard is recognized by agencies such as Sustainable Fitch, S&P Global, EcoVadis and SGS. SAS has achieved the certification across a range of areas, including corporate activities, flight operations, MRO, ground handling and cargo.
SAS is the leading airline in Scandinavia, with main hubs in Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm, and flying to 135 destinations across Europe, the U.S. and Asia. Each year, SAS serves over 25 million passengers and transports 55 tons of cargo, all facilitated by a passionate team of more than 10,000 colleagues. The company aims to be a driving force in sustainable aviation and in the transition towards net zero emissions by 2050. SAS also offers ground handling services, technical maintenance and air cargo services.
