On Monday (January 27, 2025), SAS announced the introduction SpaceX-engineered high-speed Wi-Fi across their fleet.  The phased rollout on the carrier’s entire fleet will begin by year-end 2025, and EuroBonus members will enjoy this premium feature at no cost.  Starlink delivers internet worldwide, leveraging advanced satellites to provide connectivity across challenging remote regions, including the North Pole, over the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea.  SAS’ guests will be able to enjoy Wi-Fi connectivity from the moment they board until they disembark, offering a major enhancement compared to the current system that only activates after takeoff, and then disconnects during descent.

In Monday’s announcement, SAS’ Chief Commercial Officer, Paul Verhagen, said,

“By introducing this new technology, we’re connecting our passengers to the world like never beforeWe’re putting an end to frustrating interruptions and ushering in a new era of connectivity.  Whether flying over the Atlantic or the North Sea, our passengers can now count on a connection that is as stable and seamless as it is fast.  This is about giving our customers the best and ensuring SAS remains synonymous with excellence.

“This is a game-changer for our travelers.  Gate-to-gate connectivity isn’t just an improvement — it’s a breakthrough in convenience and reliability.  It gives our customers the freedom to work seamlessly, stay connected, and enjoy uninterrupted entertainment throughout their flight.

Also commenting on the new connectivity partnership, SpaceX’ Vice President – Starlink Enterprise Sales, Jason Fritch, added,

“We’re excited to provide reliable, high-speed internet across the entire SAS fleet and help level-up the in-flight experiences for passengers and crew from gate to gateWe’re especially proud that Starlink can offer connectivity for passengers that’s as good if not better than at their homes while flying across the Atlantic, North Sea and North Pole, which historically had been challenging for in-flight internet.”

In a separate press release on Monday (January 27, 2025), SAS announced an expansion of domestic connectivity in Sweden with the launch of new service from Stockholm Arlanda to Halmstad City Airport and Kalmar Öland Airport.

In today’s announcement, SAS’ Vice President  - Global Sales, Edward Fotheringham, said,

“We are very pleased to begin operations to Halmstad and Kalmar, as this is a natural step in SAS’ long-term commitment to enhancing travel options within Sweden and internationally. Strong connections for both leisure and business travelers are a win for the entire country, playing a crucial role in boosting the Swedish economy across multiple sectors.”
