On Tuesday (November 8, 2022), Pratt & Whitney announced that Shenzhen Airlines has selected Pratt & Whitney GTF engines to power their inaugural fleet of six Airbus A321neos on lease from ICBC leasing, with delivery of the first aircraft expected later this year. Shenzhen Airlines has also selected an EngineWise® Comprehensive service agreement for long-term engine maintenance on their new fleet. The carrier currently operates 27 GTF-powered A320neos and is one of 11 Chinese carriers to operate GTF engines. Shenzhen Airlines also currently operates 41 Airbus A320ceo aircraft powered by International Aero Engine’s V2500® engines.

In Tuesday’s announcement, Pratt & Whitney’s President – China, Lori Liu, said,

“Shenzhen Airlines is taking a big step forward by adding the larger, longer-range A321neo to its fleet. With GTF engines and an EngineWise® agreement, they will get not only the highest fuel efficiency and lowest carbon emissions available for the A321neo, but also low operating costs and more predictable maintenance.”

Since entering service in 2016, GTF engines have saved Chinese operators over 500 million liters of fuel and more than a million metric tons of carbon emissions, and have carried over 80 million passengers on more than 500,000 flights. Currently, over 230 GTF-powered Airbus A320neo Family aircraft operate throughout China.

Pratt & Whitney’s GTF engines deliver industry-leading sustainability benefits, mature dispatch reliability and world-class operating costs. The engines for the A320neo Family deliver a reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions of 16 percent, as well a 75% reduction in noise footprint and a 50% reduction in NOx emissions below the ICAO CAEP/6 regulation. The engines are certified to operate on 50 percent SAF and have been successfully tested with 100 percent SAF.
