On Monday (January 8, 2024), South African Airlines announced the opening of ticket sales for resumed service between Johannesburg and Perth, Australia. Starting April 28, 2024, the route will operate three times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Flight SA 280 will depart OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg at 20:55 and will touch down in Perth at 12:20+1. The return flight, SA 281, will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, departing Perth International Airport at 14:40 and arriving back in Johannesburg at 19:35+1.
In Monday’s announcement, SAA’s CEO, Professor John Lamola, said,
“Besides the global interconnectivity potential of this route, Perth has long been a favoured destination for South African and Australian travellers, with approximately 80% of our target market being visiting family and friends. The recommencement of the route provides an easier and direct passage for both leisure and business travellers, promoting trade and cultural exchange between South Africa and Australia.
“We are committed to growing SAA into a revered leader in the global aviation sector. Perth is but one indicator of this ambition and gives us confidence that our vision of expanding our footprint to over 20 destinations this year will be realized.”
South African Airways will operate an Airbus A340-300 on the route, featuring 38 Business Class and 215 Economy Class seats.
