On June 18, 2021 Southwest Airlines will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first flight. The carrier has declared the date ‘Wanna Get Away Day’ in a nod to the advertising catch phrase launched in 1996 to highlight the airline’s expansion.
On Tuesday (June 1, 2021), Southwest Airlines announced that they have declared June 18th, the 50th anniversary of the airline’s first flight, ‘Wanna Get Away Day’ in a tribute the carrier’s advertising catch phrase coined in 1996. The date has also been registered with the National Day Calendar. Throughout June, customers will have a chance to engage with Southwest with the biggest surprises to come on Jene 18th. In honor of the airline’s 50th anniversary, Southwest is giving customers a chance to win a total of 50 million Rapid Rewards® bonus points from June 1st through June 18, 2021. In Tuesday’s announcement, Southwest Airlines’ Vice President of Marketing, Bill Tierney, said,

As part of the month-long celebration, Southwest will also have pop-up photo opportunities in 24 airport gate areas across the country, along with ‘Heart Carts’ full of swag and fun giveaways in over 40 locations. Southwest’s Inflight Crews will also be surprising and delighting guests with additional sway on June 18th, Wanna Get Away Day.
