For spring 2022, Spirit Airlines is adding seven new nonstop routes from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), as well as increased service to Cancun, Mexico. The new routes include Aguadilla (P.R.) Nashville, Houston, Punta Cana (D.R.), Montego Bay and Oakland.
Today (December 7, 2021), Spirit Airlines announced an expansion of service from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) for spring 2022 with seven new routes and increased service to Cancun, Mexico (CUN). The new routes include service to New Orleans (MSY) from February 16, 2022, and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico (BQN), Nashville (BNA), Houston (IAH), Punta Cana, Dominican Republican (PUJ), Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ) and Oakland/San Francisco (SFO) by May 18, 2022. Aguadilla and Oakland will be brand new markets for PHL, saving Spirit guests valuable time and expense by eliminating costly connections.
In Tuesday’s announcement, Spirit Airlines’ Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Matt Klein, said,
“Philadelphia has been a great partner of Spirit Airlines for a long time, and we're thankful to the airport team for enabling this opportunity to add many more popular, nonstop destinations for our Guests. This expansion is particularly exciting because of the variety of destinations stretching from the Pacific Coast, to popular spots in the Southern U.S., and three new options for Caribbean getaways.”
Also commenting on Spirit’s Philadelphia expansion, PHL’s CEO, Chellie Cameron, said,
“This is wonderful news for PHL, our passengers and our region. In addition to offering more options to popular vacation destinations, Spirit will be the only airline at PHL serving Oakland and Aguadilla nonstop. This is especially important for our passengers wanting to visit friends and relatives.”
Spirit Airlines began operations at Philadelphia International Airport in 2013 with service to Ballas-Fort Worth (DFW), Las Vegas (LAS) and Myrtle Beach (MYR). With the new routes, Spirit will now serve 20 U.S. and Caribbean destinations from PHL.
