On Wednesday (October 6, 2021), Spirit Airlines announced the launch of service at Miami International Airport (MIA), with the first flight arriving from Atlantic City, N.J., and the first departure for Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Spirit’s Miami launch starts with nine destinations, which will grow to 31 destinations through January 2022, including service to 20 domestic and 11 international markets. The ribbon-cutting ceremony at Miami today included the announcement of the ‘Free Spirit Flyaway’, a nationwide promotion where the airline will give away 31 pairs of roundtrip tickets to honor each route from Miami. Existing and new Free Spirit® loyalty program members are eligible to enter for a chance to win from now through November 3, 2021.
In Wednesday’s announcement, Spirit Airlines’ President and CEO, Ted Christie, said,
“Launching nonstop flights to 31 destinations right out of the gate in Miami is a huge milestone for us, and we want to share all that excitement with our Guests. We want our Free Spirit Loyalty winners to be able to choose their own destinations because flexibility is what we're providing in Miami—multiple daily flights that go all over the U.S. and stretch into South America. Combined with our flights from West Palm Beach and our position as the largest carrier in Fort Lauderdale, we're giving our Guests more options in South Florida than ever.”
Spirit’s full schedule to/from Miami International Airport makes the carrier the airport’s second largest airline. The Miami expansion includes over 200 new Spirit Family Members and will be supported with 16 brand new Airbus A320neos being delivered this year.
