On Friday (September 27, 2024), Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) announced the appointment of Alain Chisari (52) as Head of Swiss WorldCargo effective October 1st, 2024.  Mr. Chisari joined SWISS in 2008, and has since held various management positions with SWISS and the Lufthansa Group.  Currently, he is serving as the ITA Implementation Officer for the Group.  In his new role as head of Swiss WorldCargo, he will succeed Lorenzo Stoll, who is pursuing a new professional path outside of the airline industry.

In Friday’s announcement, SWISS’ Chief Commercial Officer, Heike Birlenbach, said,

“Alain Chisari brings a vast range of experience of the airline business both within and beyond the Lufthansa Group to his new position.  Thanks to his various international activities, he is also excellently connected throughout our industry.  I’m convinced that he will continue to successfully develop our air cargo business, and I look forward to working with him.  I also offer Lorenzo Stoll my warmest thanks for all his service and commitment.  He steered our airfreight division with great success, not least through the highly challenging pandemic times; and he and his Swiss WorldCargo team have consistently made a key contribution to our company’s favourable earnings of the past few years.”

In his new role as Head of Swiss WorldCargo, Alain Chisari will oversee SWISS’ entire airfreight division of around 300 team members worldwide, and for developing and implementing the division’s business strategy.  When Mr. Chisari joined SWISS in 2008, he had already acquired 12 years of industry experience with other airlines outside of the Lufthansa Group.  Once joining SWISS, he initially served as Head of Leisure Sales, before becoming Head of External Relations & Alliances.

In 2013, Chisari moved to Edelweiss, where he served as Chief Commercial Officer and a Member of the Management Board for the next five years.  Next, he spent a further five years as the Lufthansa Group’s Singapore-based VP Area Management for Asia & Pacific, and later in the Group’s Munich-based Area Management EMEA.  In 2023, Alain Chisari assumed his current role as Lufthansa Group’s Implementation Officer for the Italian carrier ITA Airways.

Mr. Chisari is a Swiss and Italian dual national, and he holds an Executive Master’s Degree in General Management from the SGMI Institute of Management St. Gallen.  He also speaks fluent English, French, German, Italian and Swedish.
