SWISS has announced the appointed Martin Knuchel as the carrier’s new Head of Cabin Crew effective July 1st, 2023. Mr. Knuchel currently serves as Head of Crisis, Emergency and Business Continuity Management for the Lufthansa Group Airlines.
On Friday (May 26, 2023), Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) announced the appointment of Martin Knuchel (57) as the company’s new Head of Cabin Crew. Mr. Knuchel currently serves as Head of Crisis, Emergency & Business Continuity for the Lufthansa Group Airlines. He will assume his new role on July 1st, 2023, and will report directly to SWISS’ CEO, Dieter Vranckx. As Head of Cabin Crew, Knuchel will lead around 3,600 SWISS cabin crew members, the company’s largest team, together with his Cabin Crew Management team. Mr. Knuchel will succeed Reto Schmid, who has decided to take on a new professional challenge after seven years in the position.
In Friday’s announcement, SWISS’ CEO, Dieter Vranckx, said,
“Leading our cabin crew corps is a vital function within our SWISS organization. With his long and broad experience both in cabin management and in other areas of our company, Martin Knuchel is the ideal appointee to this demanding position. The key negotiations on a new collective labour agreement and the thousand new cabin crew members that we are recruiting this year alone are just two of the major issues on the current agenda. And I wish Martin Knuchel every success and satisfaction in his new capacity. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Reto Schmid for all his work, service and commitment, and to wish him all the very best for the future.”
Prior to his current position at the Lufthansa Group, Martin Knuchel held various positions, including cabin management functions, at both Swissair and SWISS. His aviation career started in 1995 when he joined Swissair as a cabin crew member, and he still flies regularly today as a SWISS maître de cabine.
